Pico the Parrot — book cover

Pico the Parrot

Pico gets lost in Coronado.

He sees the Hotel Del Coronado. He meets a dragon — two, actually. He visits the pelicans at La Jolla Cove, the lighthouse at Point Loma, and the trees at Balboa Park that look exactly like something out of a children's book, which is convenient.

Eventually — in his own time, on his own terms — he finds his way home to Ocean Beach.

Dozens of original illustrations. One very confident parrot. Coming Christmas 2026.

A Parrot. A City. A Very Long Way Home.

Pico the Parrot is a children's illustrated book set entirely in San Diego, California. The landmarks are real. The pelicans are real. The dragon is a matter of perspective.

Written and illustrated by Dr. Frederic Pearl — Stooge, to Pico — the book follows a yellow-naped amazon parrot who gets loose in Coronado and has to find his way back to Ocean Beach. He is not worried. He has been to Ocean Beach Elementary. He knows people.

Coming Christmas 2026.
